To lead God’s people properly requires a certain kind of man, so the Holy Spirit supplies us with a list of necessary qualities in two NT books. These texts provide a character sketch of the man who is equipped with the tools needed to do the work. The lists don’t speak of his formal education, popularity, business acumen, or professional training, but center instead on the quality of his life and conduct.
